CNMC Luanshya Copper Mines Plc (CLM), a Zambia-based subsidiary of China Nonferrous Metal Mining (Group) Co., Ltd. (CNMC), held a ceremony on Sept. 24 local time to mark the donation of streetlights and the launch of streetlight upgrading and installation work in Luanshya, Copperbelt Province, Zambia, as part of its efforts to support local infrastructure development and fulfill its corporate social responsibility (CSR).
The ceremony was attended by local government officials, including Luanshya District Commissioner Paul Malele, Member of Parliament Golden Mulenga, Mayor Charles Mulenga, and representatives of the contractors, the local communities, media, and residents, as well as Chinese and Zambian employees of CLM.

In his speech at the ceremony, the Town Clerk of the Luanshya Municipal Council thanked CLM for its active efforts to carry out public welfare projects aimed at improving people’s livelihoods.
He spoke highly of the streetlight project’s role in improving local infrastructure and enhancing safety for residents traveling at night, and expressed his expectation for deeper cooperation between CLM and the local government.
A community representative also expressed appreciation for the project on behalf of nearby residents, hospitals, and schools, and voiced hopes for its timely completion.
Jiang Lei, chairman of CLM, said the company has actively fulfilled its CSR since taking over the operation of the mine in 2009.
He noted that CLM has integrated environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations into its business strategy and daily operations and is committed to sharing its development achievements with local communities.
The streetlight project aims to improve nighttime travel conditions in residential areas and around hospitals and schools, he said, adding that the project was initiated in response to community needs following consultations and on-site assessments with relevant government authorities.
Jiang expressed appreciation for the Luanshya government's continued support and cooperation and said the company looks forward to working with local authorities to carry out more community initiatives that deliver tangible benefits to residents.
